In this lesson, we will create a fundamental analysis framework .

Let's integrate quantitative and qualitative data to create a system that can evaluate any asset, and develop the ability to make judgments in light of market realities.

 

Why a framework is necessary

The market is complex. New data, news, and investor sentiment change every day, creating a constant stream of information noise.

Analyzing without a clear structure can lead to being overwhelmed, making poor judgments, and making you more susceptible to unconscious biases.

A well-designed framework serves the following purposes:

  • Maintain consistency in analysis regardless of assets or market conditions.

  • Reduce emotional judgments and replace them with evidence-based decision-making.

  • Improve accuracy and efficiency , leading to meaningful insights.

  • It functions as a personal decision-making model that can be used according to your own goals and risk tolerance.

In short, a framework is like a checklist for analysis .

By taking a systematic approach, you can avoid overlooking important points and make clear decisions.

 

5 Steps of Fundamental Analysis

An effective framework strikes a balance between rigor and flexibility .

The following is a five- step framework used by many professionals, from equity analysts to institutional investors, when comprehensively evaluating assets .

 

Step 1: Data Collection

All analysis begins with gathering information. However, not all data has the same value.

The first challenge is to gather highly relevant and reliable sources of information to form the basis of the evaluation .

The data that should be collected varies depending on the type of asset.

Types of assets

GDP, inflation, employment statistics, trade balance, interest rates, central bank policy

  • Brands and Innovation : Reputation and Adaptability

  • Corporate Culture and ESG Factors : Social Responsibility, Diversity, and Environmental Responsibility

By combining quantitative and qualitative approaches, we can go beyond simple data analysis and decipher the underlying essence behind the numbers.

In other words, you'll be able to understand not only what's happening, but also why it's important .

 

Step 3: Comparison and Contextualization

Analysis alone is meaningless.

We determine if an investment is truly attractive by comparing it to industry averages, competitors, and historical data.

 

Comparison with competitors

Comparing companies and assets within the same industry reveals their relative strengths.

  • Companies with less debt and higher profit margins than their competitors are likely to have superior management and operational efficiency.

  • In forex trading, currencies with higher interest rates and stable inflation compared to other countries often have significant upside potential.

Comparison with the past

Let's check the trends of key indicators:

  • Are sales and profits growing steadily?

  • Does a balance sheet strengthen or weaken over time?

  • How do the current evaluation metrics compare to the historical average?

 

Industry and economic context

The macroeconomic environment impacts the performance of individual assets.

for example,

  • Rising interest rates can put pressure on high-growth tech companies.

  • Economic expansion boosts cyclical sectors such as manufacturing and construction.

  • A commodity shortage benefits producers but disadvantages consumers.

By adding context in this way, we give meaning to numbers and transform mere information into a basis for decision-making.

 

Step 4: Consolidate valuation and investment decisions.

Based on the collected data, we estimate the value of assets and make investment decisions.

Is this asset undervalued, fair, or overvalued?

 

Calculation of intrinsic value

We will use the evaluation method we learned previously:

  • Price-to-Earnings Ratio ( P/E ) : Comparison of stock price and earnings with the industry average.

  • Price-to-Book Ratio ( P/B ) : An evaluation of the relationship between stock price and book value.

  • DCF model : Estimating the present value of future cash flows

Review of investment policy

I ask myself this question:

  • Have the fundamentals changed?

  • Has the value gap narrowed?

If there are any changes, I will objectively re-evaluate my stance. Flexibility is a characteristic of disciplined investing.

 

Adjusting timing with technical analysis

  2. Fundamental analysis
    revenue is growing at an annual pace of 18%, debt is at a manageable level, and free cash flow is positive. Qualitatively, the management team has a solid track record, and the company is benefiting from the tailwinds of global climate policies.
     
  3. While the average
    P/E ratio for its competitors in the renewable energy industry is 30x, this company trades at 22x. Furthermore, its profit margins and investment in innovation are above the industry average.
     
  4. Valuation and Investment Policy
    : Based on a DCF model, the intrinsic value per share is calculated to be $85, representing approximately 25% upside potential compared to the market price of $68.

    Investment Hypothesis: "This company is undervalued and has growth potential as clean energy support expands in various countries."
