The FJD/ US Dollar exchange rate behaves stably because the Fijian Dollar operates under a fixed exchange rate system, pegged to a trade-weighted basket of major currencies including the U.S., Australian, and New Zealand dollars. Against the basket as a whole it remains anchored, but its bilateral values versus individual currencies mirror global currency market fluctuations. Beyond the central bank's peg, massive inflows from tourism and personal remittances heavily shape national reserves. Commodity exports like bottled water, sugar, and gold also drive fiscal stability, while volatile fuel import costs impact the currency's overall pressure.

The US Dollar (USD) is strong because it is the world's primary reserve currency and the most widely used currency in global trade and finance. High global demand for USD-denominated assets, especially US Treasury bonds, continuously supports its value. Its strength is also reinforced by deep financial markets, global trust in US institutions, and safe-haven demand during economic crises.

The Swiss Franc (CHF) is considered very stable thanks to Switzerland's low inflation, strong banking system, and cautious monetary policy. The Singapore Dollar (SGD) is also stable, managed through a currency basket by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Both tend to hold their value well during global uncertainty and market volatility.

The Fijian dollar was first introduced from 1867 to 1873. It was later reintroduced on January 15, 1969, officially replacing the Fijian pound through decimalisation. Although Fiji became a republic in 1987, banknotes and coins prominently featured Queen Elizabeth II until 2013, when her portrait was replaced by iconic local flora and fauna designs.
