The HTG/US Dollar exchange rate is mainly moved by remittances, one of Haiti largest sources of foreign currency. Heavy reliance on imported food and fuel keeps demand for dollars high, while political instability and gang-related insecurity badly undermine confidence in the Haitian gourde. The Bank of the Republic of Haiti tries to manage the rate, but thin reserves and high inflation leave it exposed. Foreign aid flows and the very unstable security situation tend to swing this currency a lot.

The US Dollar (USD) is strong because it is the world's primary reserve currency and the most widely used currency in global trade and finance. High global demand for USD-denominated assets, especially US Treasury bonds, continuously supports its value. Its strength is also reinforced by deep financial markets, global trust in US institutions, and safe-haven demand during economic crises.

The Swiss Franc (CHF) is considered very stable thanks to Switzerland's low inflation, strong banking system, and cautious monetary policy. The Singapore Dollar (SGD) is also stable, managed through a currency basket by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Both tend to hold their value well during global uncertainty and market volatility.

The Haitian Gourde (HTG) is the currency of Haiti, introduced in 1813. The currency name "Gourde" shows that the country is cognate with French and influenced by Spanish. The gourde was pegged to the French franc in 1881 before it was pegged to the US dollar in 1912. The USD is a commonly accepted currency in Haiti, even though many vendors prefer Gourdes, but will accept the USD as well.
