Senior Documentation Specialist
At Expert Support, Janet specializes in technical documentation of software systems. She plans, designs, writes, edits, and indexes online and paper documents, including reference guides, user guides, help systems, release notes, and installation guides. Janet’s niche falls into the area of developing documentation processes that fit well with marketing, development, and product release best practices, identifying documentation needs for new and existing products (software and hardware), and working closely with engineering teams to develop timely, accurate, and complete technical guides. On each project, Janet analyzes a product for the purposes of documentation, starting with specifications and ending with strenuous alpha testing of the end product, providing feedback and recommendations specific to product usability and alignment with the original design documentation.
Prior to joining Expert Support, Janet spent 11 years at Convergent Technologies, where she learned the art of being an effective technical writer. It was at Convergent that she learned the ins and outs of technical writing from the “pros” who ran a highly evolved publications group with editors, production editors, graphic artists, and online help specialists who taught her how to plan, organize, execute, and release numerous guides for hardware and software products. Since then, Janet has managed documentation and training efforts for other firms, including Platinum Technology and Niku Corporation (both now part of CA) as well as Nextance Inc.
When not chasing deadlines and recalcitrant engineers, Janet can be found studying Irish history, attempting yoga poses, keeping up with her nieces, walking a mischievous greyhound, reading the latest historical fiction novels, or learning the nuances of preparing the perfect Indian curry.
